Prairie Land is a volunteer-run organization providing by-appointment mediation services.

We are a nonprofit organization established since 2008 to provide residents of Champaign-Urbana and surrounding communities with the option to resolve disputes themselves; voluntarily, nonviolently, inexpensively and within a safe space in our community.

Our Mission

We strive to reduce court congestion, promote peaceful alternatives to litigation and provide education, training and volunteer opportunities for community members in conflict resolution and prevention. Our mediation services can save participants at least $1,250 in lawyer fees for similar services.

Services We Offer

Mediation is an informal process in which a neutral third party helps people in conflict negotiate a mutually acceptable agreement. Learn more about the mediation process or you can Contact Us to schedule a mediation session.

Mediation Training

Our 40-hour course offers basic mediation training through role-playing, lectures, exercises, case histories, and demonstrations of disputes and dispute resolution. Role-play scenarios will focus on conflicts involving employment, civil rights, contracts, and more.

Who can attend the training?
This training is designed for human resources professionals, attorneys, counselors, and other professionals whose work involves resolving disagreements.

Important Notes:

  • PLCMC is not an arm of the Champaign County court or court record system.
  • All mediation sessions are strictly confidential.
  • We do not archive signed casefiles for client request. All document requests and questions about         filings are made through court.
  • Letters regarding case determinations are only ever sent to the presiding Judge, never attorneys.
  • Unsigned agreements are not kept on file for more than 24 hours.
